No Meaningful Considerations for Single Parents

Hooray Healthcare

Being a single working parent can find you in a bit of a pickle, especially when your job requires you to leave your child behind like Barragan’s job did. Yet, this is somehow not a problem that companies see fit to address in a meaningful way. In a recent report by a management consulting firm, it was found that less than one-third of employers had, were planning, or were considering having child care plans in place for working parents. About half of employers surveyed did not offer caregiving navigation resources, two-thirds did not modify performance expectations of working parent employees, and 84% did not offer onsite or near-site child care services. Due to the coronavirus pandemic which forced a lot of people to shelter at home, only 23% of employers surveyed said they would enhance their caregiving benefits.
