The classy and graceful Dame Natalie Sara Massenet is well-known in the fashion industry, credited for revolutionizing luxury retail and is fondly described by the British newspaper, The Observer, as fashion’s favorite self-made success story. Born in California and raised in Paris, she moved back to the United States where she landed her first job in a menswear shop in Los Angeles. After graduating from UCLA with a degree in English Literature, she worked as a fashion model and stylist in Tokyo, a receptionist at Universal Studios, and an assistant at an Italian magazine before starting her career as a fashion journalist at Women’s Wear Daily. Massenet came up with the idea for Net-a-Porter while sourcing products online for a photoshoot, and she launched the online fashion magazine and retailer in her London flat in 2000. Aside from being a remarkable fashion entrepreneur and journalist, Massenet was also a chairman of the British Fashion Council from 2013 to 2017, a co-founder of the venture capital fund, Imaginary, in 2018, and a non-executive co-chairman at the online luxury fashion retailer, Farfetch.
