The #MeToo movement was one that broke the stigma on sexual assault and how women began speaking up about the horrors they had undergone at the hands of others. So when Sports Illustrated decided to use this as one of their platforms to show their solidarity for those that were abused, the editors decided to photograph women that had empowering words written across their naked bodies. The problem was many others didn’t understand how the two truly went hand in hand. Some readers had even claimed that it was the magazines ‘attempt at relevance “spectacularly silly, not to mention tone-deaf.’”
