Considering that the swimsuit edition is supposed to show women wearing precisely that, swimsuits, this particular cover became highly controversial because of the very topless model. The gorgeous Veronica Varekova was the Czech model that made the cover of 2004’s issue, and rather than wearing her bikini top, she was shown holding it. While she didn’t show off more lady parts than other models had done before, people still felt appalled at the idea that the model in the skimpy bikini happened to be holding part of it instead of wearing it. Ridiculous, we know! There could have been no way that all these people with such violent reactions could have known what the magazine would have planned for their covers in the near future.
