Never Go Out Without Cash

When in Taiwan, don’t expect that you can use your credit card everywhere you go. In fact, you’ll probably use cash way more than you will a credit card in more places than you’d think. Many of their convenience stores, public transport systems, and even some restaurants are on a ‘cash payment only’ basis. Never go out without cash unless you want to find yourself washing dishes as payment for your meal, or searching for the nearest ATM or money changer.
