The model icon at the time, Twiggy, had this prepubescent, Lolita look about her. Lolita was a novel created by Russian-American novelist Vladimir Nabokov. It centered on a controversial young 12-year old who became sexually mature through the obsession of her stepfather. But there was no malice in the “Lolita” look made popular by Twiggy. It was simply a look of a young, but experienced woman. It symbolized youth and vigor, sans the innocence and naivety. Many would say it was a rebellious look, and some parents did not appreciate the look. But a lot of young men did, and so the young girls continued to follow the trend. Nowadays, a man who appreciates the Lolita look would be considered a pedophile and a molester.
