Prior to that era, women hardly bared their legs above the ankles, or the shins. It was a way for the women to set themselves apart from the older generation. Of course there were no complaints from the men, except maybe from a few jealous husbands. But the appreciation of a woman’s legs was increasing. The fashion also brought about different shoe styles, like pointed boots and “Roman” type sandals. It was the start of a fashion revolution, and a greater appreciation for a woman’s body.
