By the end of the 1960s, female athletes were popularly accepted. But not really for the right reasons. Men considered athletics as part of a way for women to maintain their figure and continue to try to be attractive. It was more like a viewing pastime for males to watch women compete in sports. Particularly for gym class in high schools and colleges, or tennis tournaments. An athletic physique was considered attractive, only if the woman was not too muscular. The women athletes of today are very much respected for what they do, and not how they look. It may have taken decades, but it is hard to change a mindset. But even today, men still ogle at women in sports, especially the gorgeous and sexy ones. Looks like that won’t change in the near future.
