This may shock some readers, especially the women, but 50 years ago, men found subservience in women very attractive. Women were expected to be homemakers and serve their husbands. Even with some strides towards gender and racial equality, women still did not have the same rights as men. It was unfortunate but very real. Women could not even get a credit card unless they were married, they could not even attend a military academy, and more shocking, there was no such thing as sexual harassment. Even attending Ivy League schools was very rare. It was a man’s world literally. Men felt that they wore the pants in the house, provided for the family, therefore were above their wives in stature. Surely nowadays the women would just laugh at their husbands (or worse) if they behaved in such a way. Times have really changed from those days. All for the better for sure.
