Dogs grunt all the time, even in their sleep. Most of the time, they do it without even realizing that they’re doing it at all. The reason behind all the grunting is due to ‘hard breathing that is reduced in pace.’ The sound just happens to come out when they are at a very relaxed state, while they are normally resting or sleeping, curled up happily in their bed.
