This is probably one of the weirdest, and grossest, habits that basically all dogs do at one point in their doggie lives. And if dogs eating their own poo wasn’t strange enough, this particular habit actually has a name, coprophagia. This has been going on for centuries and at times is due to malabsorption diseases. Thankfully, most adult dogs no longer do this, and puppies that take on to potty training quickly normally stop this habit as well. And while it’s in their nature, it is also something that can be worked on so that they won’t do it again. If you notice your older dog doing it, then bring them to the vet as they might have a few deficiencies you’ll need to fix.
