Authorities believed his story for a while. In fact, they felt sorry for him. They housed him at the Sandman Hotel where he stayed for a few days following the rescue. Then he heard about Terry Jo’s miraculous survival. For some strange reason, he took his own life inside his room at the hotel the very next day.
