He gave an account to his story and he said that the Bluebelle was damaged by a sudden squall. His wife and the rest of the family on board were injured when parts of the ship suddenly and quickly collapsed. The ship then caught fire when the gas lines ruptured inside the engine room, causing it to slowly sink into the dark waters. He said that he couldn’t rescue the rest of the passengers because the rest of them got tangled in the lines and rigging that dragged them down as the ship sank. It sounded sensible to them at that time.
