Sir Ian Mckellen is a celebrated English actor who has won numerous awards, including a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award, and 6 Laurence Olivier Awards. He has also been nominated several times for Emmy Awards, Academy Awards, and the BAFTA. He is popularly known as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies. Also known for his role as Magneto in the X-Men films. But, only a few realize he has also done a multitude of stage performances since 1961. Mckellen made his sexual orientation known to fellow stage actors early in his career, but only came out publicly in 1968. It was remarkable of him to do so, as only a few came out as homosexuals at the time. Still, it did not negatively affect his career. Good for him.
