Bernie Sanders is another politician who hopes of becoming the next US president. He has served as a US senator from Vermont since 2007. He is known for his position against economic inequality and neoliberalism. He was born into a working class Jewish family in Brooklyn. As a student, he was an active protest organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality, and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee during the civil rights movement. He was elected mayor of Burlington in 1981, and was re-elected 3 times. He won election to the US House of Representatives in 1990. He said he was a distant cousin of comedian Larry David. There seems to be some resemblance, even when both were much younger.
