There were many firsts for Kobe during this season. For the first time in his career, Kobe played 80 games. He also recorded a then career high of 56 points in the 120-81 win over visiting Memphis Grizzlies. He claimed his first All-Star MVP trophy after a 31 point performance in Philadelphia, where he was booed by fans for a remark made to a heckler. He was also promoted to the All-NBA First Team for the first time. Kobe was also suspended for 1 game after he punched Reggie Miller of the Indiana Pacers in their March 1 2002 game victory. In the 2002 victory over the New Jersey Nets, Bryant became the youngest player to win 3 championships at 23. This cemented his reputation as a “clutch player.”
