January 26, 2020 A Sikorsky S-76 took off from John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California. Aboard were Kobe, his daughter Gianna, and 7 other people including the pilot. They were headed to a practice session at Bryant’s Mamba Academy in Thousand Oaks. They never made it. The light rain and foggy weather grounded most air traffic vehicles including LAPD helicopters. Bryant’s helicopter crashed around 40 minutes after it took off from Orange County, into the side of a mountain in Calabasas, California. Authorities said that all occupants were killed instantly. Kobe left his wife and 3 daughters behind. Unfortunately, his 13 year old Gianna was with him when the tragedy occurred. Kobe was 41, and left a legacy behind as one of the greatest basketball players that ever lived. Many around the world mourned his loss, and will not forget what he brought to the game. “He will be remembered most for inspiring people around the world to pick up a basketball and compete to the very best of their ability,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said.
