Bryant established Kobe, Inc. to own and grow brands in the sports industry. He invested $6 million in 2014 for a 10% stake in the Bodyarmor SuperDrink, and with Coca-Cola purchasing a minority stake in the company in 2018, Kobe’s stake rose to about $200 million. Kobe and business partner Jeff Stibel established a venture capital firm focused on different businesses, including gaming, data, media, and technology, with $100 million in funding in 2016. Also in 2016, Kobe became the first African American to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, and the first former professional athlete to win an Academy Award in any category for his film Dear Basketball. He also made appearances on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series All That in 2000, and MTV’s Ridiculousness in 2019.
