Joseph Michael Swango was born on October 21, 1954 in Tacoma, Washington. His father was a US army officer who served during the Vietnam War and had made a name for himself. He was a fierce fighter who was a force to be reckoned with on the field. However, he was also an alcoholic. He liked the booze a little too much, which may have contributed to Swango’s character. When he got back from Vietnam, Swango’s parents divorced and Muriel, his mother, was left to raise the children by herself. In fact, when asked whom he was closest to, he would say his mother.
