Swango stayed close to where he grew up and graduated summa cum laude from Quincy University. He also got the American Chemical Society Award, another indication that he had a near brilliant mind. His teachers were constantly impressed by his academic performance. He took note of everything he learned and studied consistently for good grades. And what do smart people do after college? Swango furthered his studies by attending medical school at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU).
