Never Rely Too Much On Your Credit/Debit Cards

If your travel itinerary in Indonesia mainly involves going in and out of stores, boutiques, and restaurants, then this may not be an issue. If you do plan to use your credit/debit card during your vacation, please inform your bank that you’ll be travelling to Indonesia. If you don’t, then it’s possible that you might find your card blocked because of “suspicious activity”.
However, if you are planning to go on adventures, cultural excursions and explorations, bringing a proper amount of cash on you will be necessary. Keep smaller bills to tip your guides, pay for parking, or purchase small things or souvenirs you may encounter on the way. Take note that, credit and debit cards can be used in larger stores, restaurants and hotels in Indonesia. But for smaller transactions it is still worthwhile to pay in cash at cafes and markets or if you travel to some of the more out of the way or rural areas.
