Kuta Beach, is one of the most popular tourist spots in Bali. It is close to the airport, it has big bars, it has overpriced Indonesian food, mediocre western food, large hotels and resorts, polluted beach, and drunk tourists. Although decent shopping can be accomplished in Kuta, as well as some surfing. Kuta Beach is a good place to begin and end your trip as it is close to the airport. However, unless you really want to do some hardcore drinking, spend your time until dawn in huge clubs and hang out with tanned surfers in brown water; there is no reason to visit Kuta beach. You can experience great surfing here and the cheap lessons are available, but if you want to learn in clean water, go elsewhere. There’s good surfing all over Indonesia.
