When on vacation in Indonesia, most tourists would go to the beach or enjoy the great outdoors by hiking to a mountain or a temple. Being outdoors while Indonesia can’t be helped; and add to that, Indonesia is a tropical country. Getting a sunburn isn’t the only detriment of being outside almost the entire day. You can also get dehydrated and may also suffer from heat stroke. Heat stroke is when a person’s core body temperature rises too high (often more than 104 F), this is because of the high environmental temperature (typically over 90 F) and humidity (over 70% relative humidity) prevents the body from cooling through its normal means of sweating and breathing. As heat stroke develops, our heart beats fast, our lungs breathe fast, we feel dizzy and nauseated, our muscles cramp, and we become confused, eventually losing consciousness entirely.
You don’t have to worry too much about heat stroke. Heat stroke is easily preventable – just stay cool and stay hydrated. It is simple, right? Just bring your refillable water bottle when you are out having fun (don’t forget to hydrate)!
