The food in Indonesia will be different from your cheeseburger, hotdog or corn on the cob. Indonesian cuisine often demonstrates complex flavor, acquired from certain ingredients and mixture of several spices. Indonesian food and beverages are therefore bestowed with such a unique profile and wide spectrum of ingredients and taste. Such savory viands that are must tries on your trip to Indonesia would be Indonesian Satay, Beef Rendang, Nasi Rawon, Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice), and kolak for dessert.
Satay is meat skewers that are cooked over coal. Satay is usually served with rice cakes (ketupat) with peanut sauce poured all over the satay. This dish originated from Padang, Sumatra. Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice), which doesn’t need any further introduction, is considered Indonesia’s national dish. While Nasi Rawon is a dish made of beef stew from East Java. Rawon has this nutty flavour and a black color from the use of keluak nut. Kolak is a sweet dish, which is a mix of diced (bite size pieces) sweet potato, cassava, banana, pumpkin and stewed in coconut milk and palm sugar.
All of these dishes are definitely delicious and mouth-watering, but their taste is totally different from your fast-food burger joint. Foodies will definitely rejoice!
