Never Forget To Wear Sunscreen

It is very easy to get a sunburn in Indonesia. This is due to the location of the country, which is near the equator, the sun’s rays are very strong and the UV index is consistently high. Don’t let sunburn ruin your vacation. Apply plenty of high-SPF sunscreen frequently, preferably sunscreen with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) not lower than 40. At the same time, try to minimize the time you spend in the sun. Avoid being in direct sunlight when the sun reaches the highest point in the sky between 10 am and 3 pm. Find shelter where the sun isn’t reflected up from the sand or the water, as ultraviolet radiation is also reflected up from these surfaces. Also cover up as much as possible without overheating. Wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and UV treated clothing will help prevent painful sunburns.
Don’t forget to bring high-quality sunscreen from home, as sunscreen in Indonesia (especially in Bali) can be expensive (because it is imported). If you do get a sunburn, aloe is available in pharmacies for sunburn first aid, and drinking fresh green coconuts is a healthy way to stay hydrated.
