Theft happens in Indonesia, especially in the tourist spots. The thieves are typically on motorbikes and they would snatch the bag off the unsuspecting victim’s shoulder. In some cases, victims have been dragged down the road and injured, or knocked over and subsequently beaten by the thieves. In 2014, there was a tragic case in the Seminyak/Legian area of south Bali, where a young South Korean traveler was killed instantly when she was robbed and pulled off the back of a motorbike she was travelling on and thrown under the path of an incoming car. It would be best to leave your valuables in your hotel room. If you have a personal safe available, use it and keep your valuables there. Only bring your valuables with you when you travel around, only if it is necessary. Flashy and valuable items (like jewelry, gadgets and etc.) will just unnecessarily make you an attractive target for criminal elements.
