Moon Shoes, the Anti-Gravity Device

History Daily

Probably one of the most memorable toys to ever come out of the 80s were Moon Shoes. Marketed as an “anti-gravity device for kid-powered fun” really turned into a recipe for disaster. Kids and parents alike bought into the notion that they could feel like they were walking on the moon, and being weightless was something that everyone thought about once or twice. The new version might have been made with plastic and Velcro but it’s prototype could have totally broken an ankle, or worse, cut off a finger from the metal coils. The fact that the kid on the box has no helmet only shows that they were still pretty dumb about it even after it became a slightly safer version.
