Anchorage, Alaska

Alaska is such a large and sparsely populated state in the US, known for its diverse terrain of open spaces, mountains, and forests.  This is probably why Anchorage has a high crime rate, being a tourism-oriented place, and the fact that it takes the police more time to get to a crime scene as compared to a more densely populated area. It has crime rate of 1,203 per 100,000 residents and many blame this on drugs and gang-related violence. With 40% of Alaska’s population coming from Anchorage, it’s also the largest city in the state. However, even though the Anchorage Police Department is the largest police department in the state, serving an area of 159 square miles, this populous All-America City Awardee still ranks sixth among the most dangerous cities in the US, and your chance of becoming a victim of a crime in Anchorage is one in 83.
