Not to be confused with Kansas City, Kansas, this city has a violent crime rate of 1,724 per 100,000 residents, with unemployment at 4.3 % and a poverty rate of 18.3%. It was able to bring down its homicide rate, but that was merely temporary as it is on the rise again. Kansas City is generally a safe cultural district showing growth and diversity, but there are areas notorious for their high crime rates and decrepit environments that should be avoided. It’s wise to steer clear of Prospect and Troost avenues where racial tensions are high, as well as muggings and drug-related crimes.
