A real popular tourist spot for foreigners and Americans alike due to its party atmosphere, music scene and cultural history. But with all this glitz comes some unpleasant crime statistics. It has a violent crime rate of 1,121 per 100,000 residents. It also had the highest murder rate among the major cities in the US in 2000 to 2004 and 2006 to 2011. Based on recent data, New Orleans’ violent and property crime rates are significantly higher than the rest of America’s, and your chance of becoming a victim of one of these crimes is one in 88. Not many are aware of this, and few even care. But the authorities are constantly trying to find ways to address the rising crime rate. Visit and enjoy, but just be careful.
