“Houston, we have a problem…”, that is to say violent crimes. Houston was not in the list in 2016, but a 6.3% spike in 2017 added this city, the most populous in Texas, to the list of most dangerous US cities, and definitely the most dangerous in Texas. It has a violent crime rate of 1,095 per 100,000. Although the city is perceived as reasonably safe by over 50% of Americans, there is a high rate of reported assaults and motor vehicle theft. While it’s not the most dangerous city in America, the incidence of violent crimes, particularly assault, theft, and rape, is fairly high.
