Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin. Tourists flock to the city for its cultural events and festivals, and locals know there is a lot of great stuff to do here. But travellers be warned, it has high crime rates as well. Its violent crime rate is 1,597 per 100,000, with a poverty rate of 28.4% and unemployment at 4.6%. This violent crime rate is more than double that of any other city in Wisconsin. With over 2,900 reported cases of robbery in 2018, the high robbery rate contributes to its overall violent crime rate. The police department is working hard to lower these numbers, especially focusing on a two-mile section where most of the crimes occur.
