A rich source of underground water aptly named this city, which has oil and gas as well as its resources. Amazingly, this city is home to some of the live-on-campus training sites of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers servicing the US Air Marshals, US Border Patrol, and the BIA Police—yet it is listed as one of the most dangerous cities in the US with a violent crime rate of 1,283 per 100,000 residents. The overall crime rate in Artesia is 71% higher than the national average. How ironic is that?
