Hill is a singer-songwriter that rose to fame from her start as a member of the Fugees, before launching her solo career. She began singing at an early age, and also did bit roles on television and film. Her success with the hits of the Fugees, as well as her solo top hits earned her a small treasure chest. Yet, even after all the fame and success, her net worth is only estimated at $8 million. At the peak of her career in the late 90s, Hill earned an estimated $25 million from touring, merchandise sales, and album sales. But 2001 saw her paying $5 million to a group of producers who claimed to help write and produce some of her biggest songs. This marked the beginning of the downfall of the rap-queen. It seems she retreated into a self-imposed exile, causing many album release delays. In 2012 she was charged with three counts of tax fraud, for neglecting to pay taxes for the $1.8 million income she earned from 2005 to 2007. She pleaded guilty, but made no effort to pay her back taxes and penalties. She was sentenced and served 3 months in prison.
