This next sleeping position is called The Side Sleeper. Like humans, dogs also love to sleep on their sides with their paws extended in front of them. This is more common in puppies, as well as older dogs dealing with other adult issues like stiff joints or arthritis.
What this means is that they feel incredibly safe and relaxed in their environment. Dr. Jennifer Coates, DVM, who happens to be on the advisory board of Pup Life Today, says “Dogs will sleep in this position when they are feeling comfortable with their surroundings and are at a comfortable temperature.”
According to professional dog trainer, behavior specialist and founder of Your Dog Advisor, Jen Jones, “This position is also where you’ll often notice ‘sleep running’ and twitching during your dog’s dreams, as their paws are loose and free to move.”
