On a Cold Surface

CTF

This position called On a Cold Surface is when a dog lies face down on a cold surface like the kitchen floor, or possibly the cool pavement outside, when they are feeling warm or hot. Normally, it’s a combination of a cold surface with The Superman position, meaning all their limbs are spread outwards, or possibly The Lion’s Pose, all so that they can get their bellies on a cold surface to make them cool off.
As explained above, this position is related directly to temperature. Dr. Jennifer Coates explains, “Dogs may be hot if they sleep sprawled out on cool surfaces, particularly when they’re on their bellies with legs extended maximizing the amount of un-haired skin that touches the cold floor or ground.” If you notice your dog searching for a cold surface to lie on, be sure to give them water and a chance to cool off, possibly in a cooler room.
