22. She Took The Fall For Her Company

Despite her struggles to make it big in Hollywood, Jessica Alba is one of the world’s richest actors, with a whopping net worth of $US200 million. That’s $US35 million more than Scarlett Johansson’s net worth (Johansson has topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid actresses from 2018 to 2019). However, Alba only made $US13 million from her movies and TV shows. She earned the rest of her millions when she ventured into the world of business and founded the chemical-free consumer goods company. The Honest Company has since expanded into beauty, hair, and skincare products.
In 2015, her organic beauty brand was hit with complaints from disgruntled sunburnt customers who alleged the company’s SPF 30 sunblock didn’t work. In 2016, the company was sued for claiming its infant formula was organic when it contained synthetic substances, but the company maintained its formula was FDA approved and certified USDA Organic, and the complaint was dismissed. More problems surfaced in 2017 when the company was forced to recall a baby powder that caused itchiness and skin irritation. While all these issues were resolved, and the company is now valued at nearly $US2 billion, with more plans to expand, the controversies and issues did not help Alba’s public image.
