2. She Signed Up For The Fantastic Four Sequel

What Culture

Despite the harsh reviews she received for the first movie, Jessica Alba still returned two years later in Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Even though the first movie garnered mixed reviews, it was at least a commercial success. The sequel, on the other hand, despite being the highest-grossing film during its first week, suffered a massive drop in ratings the following weekends and made significantly less than its predecessor.
After the film’s release, Alba expressed her disappointment and admitted that she detested her role because it prevented her from shining through as an actress. She also claimed that she was callously criticized by Tim Story who directed both films. In an interview with Elle, Alba claimed that during one scene where she was supposed to be expressive and emotional, the director allegedly berated her, saying “It looks too real. It looks too painful.” and “Can you be prettier when you cry? Cry pretty, Jessica.” and “Don’t do that thing with your face. Just make it flat. We can CGI the tears in.” Alba said she wanted to quit acting altogether because she felt her instincts and acting skills were not good enough, and she was not allowed to be anything more in her work than a pretty face.
