3. She Was In One Too Many Cheeseball Horror Movies

New York Times

Almost every actress in Hollywood has a cheesy horror flick buried away somewhere, and Jessica Alba suffered hers in the form of the 1999 dark comedy Idle Hands, which was based on the old adage, “Idle hands are the devil’s playthings.” It was no surprise when the movie about a teenage stoner with a possessed hand turned out a box office flop. You’d think it was enough to prevent Alba from accepting future involvement in films about haunted body parts. Instead, she returned to the same genre, albeit a different body part, as the star of the 2008 remake of the popular Hong Kong-Singaporean horror franchise The Eye. While the Asian movie received favorable reviews, the American version was found inferior to the original. Viewers slammed the wooden performances, and Jeannette Catsoulis of The New York Times made a scathing review and called Alba’s performance “vapid.”
Two box office bombs should’ve been enough, but perhaps Alba was hoping the third time’s the charm when she accepted the lead role in the 2016 supernatural cult film The Veil. Even though the premise was intriguing, the rest of the movie failed to live up the sinister idea that was introduced, and critics once again found Alba’s delivery lacking in emotional range.
