Losing weight without trying is a sure sign that your HIV may be going in the wrong direction. If you lose about 10% or more of your body weight you could have what is called wasting syndrome. It will come with diarrhea, fever, and weakness, for about a month. This happens when you have advanced HIV. It is essential to try to put weight back on. Build muscle mass with workouts or resistance exercises like push ups, planks, and squats. Consult a dietician to make sure your diet is balanced and works for you. Try high protein supplements (with the doctor or dietician’s advice). Treat infections especially those that cause diarrhea and loss of appetite. Special prescriptions for Wasting Syndrome such as megestrol acetate (Megace) and dronabinol (Marinol) prescribed by your doctor. Get enough rest.
