20. Don’t Expect Everyone to Speak English

We all have heard the saying: “When in Rome, do as the Romans do,” and speaking or at least trying to speak in the local language is one of those things.
Many visitors to Rome assume that the locals speak English. While some do, most of the locals prefer to speak in the native tongue. Italian remains Rome’s official language so try and learn to speak it if you can. Learning the local dialect can help you bigtime, especially when asking for directions, ordering in restaurants, and haggling for good prices in souvenir shops.
