21. Do Not Make the Mistake of Saying “Ciao” to Someone You Barely Know

Learning the local terms, such as greetings, also entails knowing when to use them properly, and one Italian word that is often used incorrectly is the word “ciao.”
When greeting someone you barely know, avoid using “ciao” to greet them. Instead, use “buon giorno” (good morning), or “buona sera” (good afternoon/evening). Only use “ciao” when greeting people who you know quite well.
