Diaper rash in babies can be due to a lot of factors. It can be caused by friction from a tight diaper or prolonged exposure to feces or urine from an unchanged diaper. At some point a baby would suffer from diaper rash. However, if your baby gets rashes often, application of a barrier ointment may be necessary during each diaper change in order to prevent further skin irritation. Vaseline is the commonly used barrier ointment in these cases.
After a bath, the baby’s bottom should be dried well, then Vaseline should be applied on the baby’s bottom before a clean diaper is put on. Vaseline creates a barrier between the baby’s skin and the wetness that may be irritating the baby’s bottom. This will help heal the rash.”
