Vaseline as a Remedy for Minor Skin Scrapes

Source: https://www.bbc.com

Vaseline these days is typically used to prevent chapped lips. However, petroleum jelly, or the petroleum by product before it was commercialized was initially used by oil field workers to tend to their wounds. As advised by the AAD (American Academy of Dermatology), you can use Vaseline to help your injured skin heal.
Before you apply petroleum jelly on your cut or scrape, always make sure that you clean it thoroughly. Cleaning the wounded area with mild soap and water is necessary. If it isn’t cleaned properly and you apply petroleum jelly, bacteria and other pathogens may get trapped. Once the wounded area is clean, then apply Vaseline on the area. The petroleum jelly will help the skin heal by keeping it moist and prevent the wound from drying out and forming a scab. Wounds with scabs will still heal, but it will take longer. In addition, Vaseline will help prevent a scar from getting too big or deep.
If the wound is too large and requires stitches, please follow what your doctor has advised regarding proper care of your wound.
