Most of us who use artificial sweeteners either want to try to lose weight, or have diabetes and need to avoid sugar. But it is not proven for weight loss, in fact studies show that people who consume artificial sweeteners on a regular basis actually gain weight. These include coffee sweeteners and sodas. And there really is no benefit for people with diabetes. What most people don’t realize is that artificial sweeteners actually make it more difficult to control their blood sugar levels. There may also be other unhealthy effects, such as cataracts, gastroparesis, and convulsions can be caused by aspartame. There is also evidence that chemicals that make up these sweeteners break down into a deadly toxin called DKP. When your stomach processes this chemical, it in turn produces chemicals which can cause cancer, especially brain tumors. So avoid the artificial if you can, or minimize usage. Natural is always better, but also in moderation.
