Liveability

If you’ve ever watched the movie Fargo, then you’ll pretty much know what North Dakota looks like. One major downside to living here is that the winters are incredibly harsh and long, which means that you’ll spend just as much time in the cold as you will in those incredibly hot and humid summer months. Although assisted living facilities are said to be quite affordable, nursing home and in-home care costs are the opposite. While the income tax rates are low here, the number of seniors in the state is quite low, making it hard to be with others of the same age. One North Dakota dweller shared, “My grandfather used to joke that North Dakota had two seasons, this winter and last winter,” proving that North Dakota isn’t exactly the easiest place to retire.
