For one, the overall crime rate is actually one of the highest within the country. Another is that the overall tax burdens are also more than other states, with a flat personal income tax rate of 5.75%. And aside from these statistics, residents themselves even rated their own state poorly compared to residents of other states. Although most people enjoy the warmer weather, summers are incredibly hot and humid, along with the high risk of hurricanes each and every year.
