Ranked #15: Mississippi (tied with Georgia)

Saint Paul

Tied with Georgia in the ranks, Mississippi is yet another state that doesn’t have the best rating for retired living. The healthcare system is seriously lacking, mostly due to the fact that the state lacks enough medical health providers such as dentists and physicians. While the state actually exempts any form of retirement from being taxed, including any Social Security benefits, the average income is also one of the lowest across the country as well. One former resident even complained that, “It’s extremely slow and feels like it’s behind the times. There isn’t a lot to do (at least where I lived in Southwest Mississippi).”
