Before Cameron Diaz became a huge Hollywood star, she was a leggy blonde surfer girl from California that was hoping to make it in the entertainment industry. Back in 1994, she was given her breakout role as the love interest of Jim Carrey in The Mask. Apparently, she almost lost the role to Anna Nicole Smith, but when Smith didn’t respond well to the part, they decided to look into Diaz. He explained to Variety, “I saw Cameron’s 8×10 on the casting desk and asked, ‘What about her?, I was told she was submitted but had not acted in anything else yet. I said to bring her in and let’s see… [She] was the only person for the part as far as I was concerned after her first reading. And then I saw the chemistry with her and Jim. Eight callbacks later, including improvs with Jim, I finally convinced producers.”
