Her career soared all throughout that decade and more, making her the most sought after actress during that time. One of her highly anticipated romantic comedy films, Notting Hill, where she played a role just like the one she was living in herself in real life, a popular American actress who falls in love with a charming yet slightly uncomfortable Englishman played by Hugh Grant. During the movie premiere, aside from making waves for having unshaved armpits as seen in this photo, when asked by Vanity Fair whether the movie was autobiographical at all, she responded, “I think that is the most pedestrian, boring line you can draw. If people can’t sit and just appreciate the movie for what it is—a movie written by Richard Curtis and not about me—then they shouldn’t be writing about the movie.”
